To the Chinese immigrants who moved to Malaysia in the nineteenth century to work in the rubber plantations and tin mines, Nyonya meant grandmother. These days it refers to a cooking style that combines common ingredients from Malaysia and China. But to New Yorkers it mean fabulous food at affordable prices.
