Marina Week 8
HO HO NO NO

Picture 18With the holiday season in full swing and the beginning of a brand-spanking new year lots and lots is going on. It’s a time of family, friends and FOOD. Oh, the food…the food at the parties, at the gatherings, at the gift-giving and receiving…what is up with all the nasty food, people? The mamas and I have been spartan health warriors working our routine and overcoming all the various obstacles of daily life and work obligations…and then we get hit with the holiday gorge-fest like a two-by-four drumstick right between the eyes. Well, I for one was not going into this smack down with Santa and his candy-coated minions without a plan and some back up.

That’s where my awesomely supportive and ridiculously handsome (yeah, I’m bragging…so what?) husband comes in. I’ve mentioned before that the hubby has signed on to boot camp with me. He is a fitness warrior of many years himself. As a young adult he battled his own weight issues and went on to be a certified personal trainer and all around hottie through sheer will and determination. So, in many ways he is my secret weapon in all the boot camp mayhem. When we met in 2002 we were both young and lean. I am often startled at the young, slender faces staring back at me from our old photos. Who were these kids? How little they knew of all the adventures they’d go on together…and there’s the magic…the together part. Having my husband, Lee, with me on this journey has made it all the more rewarding and fun. He’s down 10lbs., back to working out and cooking up all the healthy meals we can think up. This on top of taking care of our kiddos’ morning routine when I’m off to the gym and workouts before the crack of dawn.

So, as I surveyed all the various holiday food-fest options this season I always had a feedback loop in my head that included Ray, Lisa, the mamas and Lee backing me up. When I looked over at the ridiculous amounts of fat and sugar and just all-around unhealthy food set out so gloriously on the various holiday tables I had the privilege of being invited to partake I knew the consequences of each and every bite…and that made it all the easier to say no to the bad stuff. Now, let’s get our 2012 on right!
