So, I’ve learned a few things about driving since I became a Dad seven weeks ago today. First, I can’t drive the way I used to. Having that car seat in back kinda forces me to ease up on the gas and hold off on sweet slalom action in heavy traffic. That’s fine. At this point I’m still holding on to the six speed and nobody’s said the word “minivan” yet. So I consider that a victory of sorts.
But here’s one thing that’s been bugging me. Parking. So I hit the supermarket and there they are: these amazing front row spots with nice signs marking the spot for MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN. Um. Okay. Now I appreciate the fact that the store understands it’s not easy moving around with a newborn, but, um, Dads shop, too.
I’ve gotten a few stares in the produce department picking berries while my daughter racks out in the sling, and more often than once I’ve had people express curious surprise: “oh, look, it’s a DAD with the baby!” Well, yes.
And I drive, too. So when I hit the pediatrician’s office this week for newborn parenting class check out what I found: somebody (NOT ME, I SWEAR) had added “And Fathers!” to the Moms Parking sign. Right on with your bad self, you gender bias graffiti person!
Now, about the parenting class. Why am I the only guy??
