09.21.2010 | One of the most basic of all hair accessories is making a statement for spring, as evidenced on a slew of catwalks last week during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. At Carolina Herrera (below), Orlando Pita used multiples to create an architectural effect (Pita told me all barrettes were actually covered with hair to create added texture), or pinned at the nape of the neck to secure a ponytail (as the Morrocan Oil team did at Prabal Gurung), the most basic of all hair accessories is making a statement for spring.

We all need a toss-everything-in tote, but most options always seem clumsy, or at best, boring. And always so…canvas. Thanks to Kate Spade’s quirky quotient, we now can tote a violet metallic foil-finish bag that is simultaneously practical and posh. The foil-finish Allana tote ($245) is snake-embossed fabric, so it’s lightweight and easy-breezy. Disco beach party, anyone?

NAIL POLISH IN COOL SHADES OF BLUE FEELS FRESH
07.08.2010 | I was feeling blue waaaaay before Mr. Lagerfeld accessorized models’ nails with a pale shade of Wedgewood-esque blue for his 2011 Resort collection. Last fall, navy felt right. For spring, I opted for an icy shade of aquamarine. Early summer was all about royal blue. And now, I’ve totally fallen for turquoise — specifically Essie’s new Turquoise & Caicos. It looks just like the waters of the Caribbean, and makes me feel one pedicured step closer to paradise.

Russian & Turkish Baths

Since the late 1800s, this spot right here on E. 10th has served New York as the place to experience an unexpected paradise. 30 bucks gets you in for the day for the basics and even though the baths are pretty bare bones, doesn’t mean you wont spot a celeb or two. When we got there, Q Tip happened to be in the house.
