First off, let me warn you. I would not recommend more than one per person. We went tailgating with Ed McFarland of Ed’s Lobster Bar and he made these in the back of my Traverse thnx to electrical outlet! hollah! Takes tailgating to a whole new level! Just be sure to bring along a designated driver!!!!

Ed’s Apple Cider Cocktail aka Apple Kamikaze

Ingredients:
1 quart apple cider
10 oz. vodka
4 oz. St. Germain elderflower liquer
1 oz. triple sec
1 oz. lemon juice
ice

Fill blender with ice and pour all the liquors over the ice first. Then pour in apple cider and lemon juice. If your blender has an ice crush setting, use this – or just blend it until the ice crushes and the drink appears thick and frothy. Pour into martini glass (or plastic cup- whatev!) and garnish with cinnamon stick (or don’t bother!)

Technically it is in Amagansett, but who cares! If you are looking for the post beach party scene, Cyril’s is where it is at. And has been so since I was a co-ed crashing at my brother’s share house. It’s a mixture of the sea air, the outdoor beach bar, and the most infamous cocktail on the east coast. THE BBC: Baily’s banana colada. And as if it wasn’t boozey enough, topped with a rum floater. Everyone is a mess by 7pm. The food is supposedly good, too, but I don’t remember!

FYI: Cyril himself is one seriously professional party-er. He deserves it. After all, he has a purple heart.

On Saturday evening, my friends and our 3 toddlers in toe, tried to get a bite at The Peekskill Brewery, but they didn’t have an opening until 8:15 (long after my boy is in bed!). So, instead, we checked out this new joint which opened on Main Street. It was great! 20 beers on tap (many local), I had the cashew crusted tofu with curried lentils,,,,YUM! My friend had the beet burger with goat cheese and the kids had foccacia pizza with kalamata tapanade & roasted peppers. My friend’s hubby tried many of the beers! The smokey stout was his fave. So, if you are ever up in Northern Westchester….check it out! Looks like an old beer hall in Greenpoint.

And who knew it has historic relevance to boot! From their site:

The original Birdsall House was located directly across the street from our 970 Main Street location in Peekskill, NY from 1764-1852. The original Birdsall House was where General George Washington established the Continental Army headquarters, during his time in this part of the Hudson Valley, from 1776 to 1778. General Benedict Arnold was assigned command of the Hudson Valley and West Point at the Birdsall House. Our search for a name kept leading us back to Peekskill’s history and after much deliberation, we choose the Birdsall House, because of its historical significance and it’s proximity to our tavern.

At Toloache they aim to please: lobster tacos, carne asada, fish, shrimp: all delish, But there is one dish on the menu that might hop out at you.

Grasshopper tacos! Yes, they have been eating grasshoppers in Mexico since Mayan times, but who knew you could order them in New York City! I was daring and I tried one, which by the way was full with about one hundred of hoppers! It was surprisingly good, had an earthy taste, crunchy, salty, yummy. Also the tomatillo sauce rocked. They also have crazy margaritas, blueberry, watermelon, all worth a try but maybe not at the same time! Perfect pre or post theater spot!

DRINK RECIPES!:

Pomegranate Margarita
2 oz. 1921 Blanco
3/4 oz. Ty Ku
1 oz. lime juice

Although the name Death & Co might be a little intimidating…no worries here…the awfully nice bartender Brian aims to please….he mixes up unique concoctions that hark back to the good ol times of days gone by but with that extra edge that screams east village! They take the craft of cocktails very seriously…. it almost looks like a lab and everything has a twist like an old fashioned with a flamed orange twist. And at Death & Co, once the room is filled, you will go on the waiting list, the idea? To keep the vibe low key, and the spirits high. But whatever you do… don’t bring up the movie cocktail!
